Luisetti, Adams, Sailors - TheirSshots - Comparison

The purpose of this collage is to compare the shots of some well-known players of Kenny Sailors’ era with his shot – the true modern jumpshot.

On the left is Hall of Famer Hank Luisetti from his days in the late 1930s at Stanford.

In the middle is Johnny Adams of Arkansas in 1941 – coincidentally in an NCAA regional playoff game vs. Wyoming.

On the right is Kenny Sailors with the jumpshot he pioneered at Wyoming in the 1940s.

You can see the shots of Luisetti and Adams are different than Kenny’s. Luisetti and Adams were referred to as “jump shooters” in the early going, but - among other differences – both their feet don’t visibly leave the floor – if at all. Adams appears to use two hands to a greater extent. These shooters were more accurately referred to as “step and shoot” or “running one-handers” by coaches and sportswriters later on.

Kenny, on the other hand is well-elevated and showing good jumpshot form – like we know it today.
