Dick Connor – author of the story

 

Connor was a sportswriter in Denver for 31 years (1961-1992). He worked for the Rocky Mountain News and the Denver Post. He was named Colorado Sportswriter of the Year 17 times and is a past president of both the Pro Football Writers of America and the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. He’s in the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.

 

 

Bob Considine – quoted in the story



This quotation from Considine is significant because . . . .

He was a nationally-known sportswriter and a prolific author from 1930-1975. He was based in New York City and saw Kenny Sailors play in Madison Square Garden. His syndicated column, “On the Line with Bob Considine,” appeared in over 100 newspapers and ran from 1933 until his death in 1975. It was also featured on ABC and NBC radio.
